India...May 13

This morning, we hit the streets running. Today was very beneficial as we learned more about the many religions that are present in India. We began by visiting 3 different temples and mosques. It was saddening to watch as people bowed down, offered some form of sacrifice, and uttered a prayer. While it was sad to watch, it helped our heart expand with compassion for the people to whom we are here to serve. One of the interesting things about India is realizing how much religion pervades all parts of India. It isn’t a secret or something that is private…but it is something that encapsulates your entire being. Today was helpful in understanding people, their philosophies, and what motivates many of them to action.

This afternoon flew by as we unloaded, separated, and re-packed supplies that we brought with us for PMI: shoes, medical supplies, book bags, stuffed animals, hygiene, products, and other resources. We’re looking forward to how these items will be used to touch and impact people.

This evening we participated in Chat over Coffee. It is an evening event that is intended for people who have questions about faith, life, etc. For three hours we sat, listened, and interacted with people who would drop by. Some visited briefly while others camped and enjoyed the fellowship. Many of them spoke very good English. Others stopped by to register for PMI’s English camps that begin tomorrow. These first two days have been wonderful for gaining understanding and insight into the people here. It has been a valuable beginning to our trip. Tomorrow: Kid’s Camp and English Camp begin!
